Exhibition

The exhibition “Living Traces – Discovering Jewish Life” is dedicated to the memory of Jewish men and women who called Fulda home in the 1920s and 1930s. Twelve mobile displays bring these individuals to life through images and text.

Life at the center

Made of high-quality polycarbonate and with a stable base, the figurines depict the individuals in near-life size. The reverse sides of the silhouettes deliberately focus on life itself: talents, dreams, professional milestones, and personal aspects are highlighted in the accompanying texts. For context, the addresses of the individuals’ homes and places of work in Fulda are provided. The focus is on the lives and achievements of the individuals, not their end – whether through flight, peaceful death, or murder.

Strong partnership for Fulda's Jewish heritage

The idea for this exhibition originated with Anja Listmann, Fulda’s commissioner for Jewish life, who meticulously oversaw the comprehensive research, compilation of content, and expert curation. Dr. Thomas Heiler, then head of the cultural affairs office and the city archives, contributed his extensive expertise and provided crucial advisory and organizational support for the project. The city commissioned the agency “Studio Frost – branding & communication” to handle the concept, visual design, and production of the exhibition. All involved were committed to showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Fulda’s Jewish community.

Contemporary history revived

A special feature is the visual presentation: The original historical photographs have been meticulously reconstructed using artificial intelligence. For direct comparison, the original images are also shown on the backs of the silhouettes.

The exhibition can be flexibly positioned within a space and is aimed at both young people and adults – regardless of prior knowledge. It is ideally suited for schools, clubs, or communities. It can be borrowed upon payment of transport costs; we recommend an exhibition period of approximately four weeks per location.
